A camera down the sewer lateral — the most expensive line a general inspection can't see.

A sewer scope sends a high-resolution camera through the home's sewer lateral — the buried pipe that carries wastewater from the house to the municipal main or septic tank. A standard home inspection can run water and check drainage at fixtures, but it cannot see inside that buried line. The scope can, all the way to the tap.
We record the full run and note the pipe material, standing water, offsets and separations at joints, root intrusion, and any bellies (sags) where waste collects. You get the video, not just our word for it.
Two things make sewer scopes a smart buy in the Midlands. First, age: much of Lexington, Cayce, and West Columbia's housing stock was plumbed with cast iron or Orangeburg pipe that is now past its service life, and clay lines under older Columbia neighborhoods are notorious for root intrusion from the mature oaks that make those streets beautiful. Second, cost: a failed lateral replacement commonly runs $5,000–$15,000 with excavation — one of the most expensive single repairs a homeowner faces, and completely invisible from above ground.
For a fraction of one percent of the repair cost, you know before you close. On newer construction, the scope catches construction debris and improperly bedded pipe before the builder's warranty clock runs out.

Questions
Yes, more often than people expect. On new construction we regularly find construction debris, mortar, or crushed sections from heavy equipment driving over the yard. Catching it while the builder is still responsible turns a five-figure problem into a warranty ticket.
