Historic in-town homes and cottages
Homes near the Batesburg and Leesville cores often date to the early 1900s. Expect pier-and-beam foundations with generations of shims and jacks, cloth or knob-and-tube wiring surviving behind modernized fixtures, obsolete fuse or early breaker panels, single-pane windows and minimal insulation, and roofs where the last two coverings were laid over the first. Many of these houses are structurally sound and worth restoring — the point of the inspection is to price the work honestly before you commit.
